MARY DUNN
Grit & Grace
The grit that fuels my work runs deep—it’s stitched into the fabric of my story, passed down by the ones who raised me. Both my grandparents grew up during the Great Depression and stepped into adulthood as the world was pulled into World War II.
My granddad was born into hard times in Nashville, Tennessee, where his family had settled generations earlier, among the first to call the land home. At seventeen, he joined the Merchant Marines, chasing not just duty but the hope of something more. After the war, he captained oil tankers across oceans and traveling to faraway continents.
My grandmother’s story was no softer—a family fortune lost, a father’s life stolen, and a young girl who had no choice but to hold her family together, thrust into adulthood too soon. She carried herself with the kind of grace and quiet strength you don’t learn—you inherit.
From them, I carry both the toughness of survival and the quiet graces of old Southern tradition. I know the weight of a promise, the value of craftsmanship, and the pride in doing things the right way—even when no one’s looking. That balance—of grit and grace, of rough edges and refined tradition—shapes everything I design. My work isn’t just made to look good; it’s made to last, built with soul, story, and strength you can feel.
